Legend says that Lord Rama visited this place on his return journey from Lanka and stayed here for some time and before leaving this place Rama carved the figure of Anjaneya on a Rock.



There is a belief that the golden wreath is visible across the river for sacred souls at the approach of their death time and it was said that Sir Thomos Munroe the British Governor could see the wreath and he actually died shortly.

The temple attracts pilgrims from far and wide especially on Saturdays and in the month of August.


The temple is built at the foot of a hill on the eastern side of river Papaghni, a tributary of Penna in the midst of picturesque surroundings.

It is 55 km from Kadapa and 8 km from Vempalli. Nearest Railway Station is in Yerrguntla at 42 Km. Nearest airport is at Tirupathi at a distance of 185 Km.
