The Janma Bhoomi Program – English Short Essays for Exams

JANMA BHOOMI
“Janmabhoomi” is a novel programme started by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. It is the brain-child of Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of the state. It aims at the all round development of the state. Lakhs of people are taking part in the programme.
The programme was started on January 1st, 1997. It continued for seven days. A large number of students and teachers took part in it. N.S.S. and N.C.C. played an active role. Each teacher was given the leadership of ten students. They were made to stay in villages for a week. They worked for the development of villages in different ways. The villagers were in matters of health and hygiene. Literacy campaigns were held. Children who dropped out of schools were readmitted. Plans for the development of villages were chalked out.
So far the programme was carried out nine times. Each time a particular objective was kept in view. Tree plantation was made on a large scale. People were educated about the evils of AIDS. In some villages adult education centres were started. Villagers took part in laying roads. In many places thorny bushes were cleared. Every month the “Clean and green’ Programme being taken up one day. offices and educational institutions are cleaned that day.

Government gives them a helping hand. Students develope a sense of service. Working together teaches them the value of comradeship. The government hopes to create a “Swarna Andhra Pradesh’ through this programme.
